its spire still visible above the roofline of the surrounding false-front buildings

Store Racking rails part of the Dr AugustHeavy storage racks line the walls of the stores area at Awaba Colliery, with sprocket drives still sitting on the concrete floor and what appear to be PLC units near the timber staircase. Shafts of light from a row of tall windows cut across the floor, throwing the corrugated iron partition into sharp relief. The mine operated from 1947 until coal reserves in the Great Northern Seam ran out in March 2012. Part of the Awaba Colliery series.
